Location of Belize

         Belize is a small country located in Central America, bordered by Mexico, Guatemala, and the Caribbean Sea. Central America lies south of the United States in North America and is known for its diverse ecosystems and cultural heritage.      Belize is uniquely situated at the intersection of the North American and Caribbean tectonic plates, which create a transform boundary. At this boundary, the plates slide past one another, a movement that can lead to earthquakes. According to the Climate Change Knowledge Portal, significant seismic activity is rare in Belize; the country is nonetheless vulnerable to natural disasters due to its geological setting, including hurricanes and flooding.     Tectonic plates are large, rigid segments of the Earth’s outer shell, known as the lithosphere, which is divided into approximately 15 pieces. Belize - Disasters and Catastrophies

Welcome to my blog! For this semester, the country I chose to work with is Belize.            Belize is a small country located in Central America. On the northeast coast, it borders Mexico and Guatemala as well as a Caribbean Sea coastline to the east. The country is most famously known for its barrier reef, a world-class destination for diving and snorkeling. Belize is also home to numerous Mayan ruins and its unique cultural diversity. It contains beautiful beaches as it borders the coastline.      Although the country is beautiful and attracts many tourists to vacation spots, it does face severe and frequent natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and droughts. This leads to severe economic loss and vulnerability.       In the most recent events, Belize suffered through two tropical storms, Sara and Nadine, in November and October of 2024.
